Leading figures including Elon Musk and Kamal Harris warned of the risks of AI at the UK-hosted summit

, Kamala Harris and King Charles warned of the dangers posed by the technology at the AI Safety Summit in Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire.

Governments agreed to work together to form an “internationally inclusive network of scientific research on frontier AI safety” – with further summits taking place in South Korea in six months’ time and France in a year. He suggested that by the time of the next summit, leaders would know enough to decide whether international regulations are needed to control the risks posed by more powerful technologies.Mustafa Suleyman, a British entrepreneur who co-founded DeepMind and now runs Inflection AI, said that governments should set up a global co-ordinatory body similar to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Mr Musk said AI was “one of the biggest threats to humanity” because it could soon become “far smarter than the smartest human”, adding: “It’s not clear to me we can actually control such a thing, but I think we can aspire to guide it in a direction that’s beneficial to humanity.”
