Leading figures including Elon Musk and the King warned of the risks of AI at a UK-hosted summit

Governments agreed to work together to form an “internationally inclusive network of scientific research on frontier AI safety” – with further summits taking place in South Korea in six months’ time and France in a year. Mustafa Suleyman, a British entrepreneur who co-founded DeepMind and now runs Inflection AI, said that governments should set up a global co-ordinatory body similar to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He also said it would be “a very sensible question to ask” whether at some point in future cutting-edge AI development should be paused completely to assess its dangers.
