The closure of numerous Garda stations and Defence Forces barracks since the Troubles ended will not impede the State’s ability to police the Border, Minister for JusticeWhile acknowledging many Garda stations had been closed, the force’s fleet of vehicles and its technology had greatly improved, facilitating better policing, he said.
Addressing these concerns, Mr Flanagan said: “There’s far more to policing and An Garda Síochána than mere bricks and mortar. Some 49 of the new gardaí passing out are being deployed to the Northern region. Garda sources said this was only marginally higher than numbers that would normally be deployed to that region.
But do they have the appropriate funding and equipment to do the job?
They’ll catch anyone with no tax or nct alright but will shit the pants at going after criminals
Doubt that at all! Guards are a rare sight walking beats these days never mind a border.
Has this guy&Leo&Simone not been telling us for 2 years, absolutely no border, no way Scoby, nada, backstop, doorstop, full stop. And now there are enough Gardai to police the border. But not enough to police our streets, our diverse estates And rural Ireland.
I doubt this very much, they can’t even properly police the criminals this side of the border
improved tech? I told a gardai in leitrim a year ago they could track phone locations to provide crucial evidence, response I got was 'we're not CSI miami here u know?' also told repeatedly that cctv 'doesnt work' in garda stations get a few speed cameras workin, job done..
I wish we had more police in my town in Kildare.... let the UK police the border, they are leaving EU...their problem..not ours
Gentlemen we are now entering the twilight zone. How’d that work out during the troubles?
You are a disgrace with what you are doing with our cou try
