Staff learned of the closure on June 12th at close of business, having received little prior warning with many workers having given decades of service to the store. Today they protested outside the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in order to ensure Minister Richard Bruton takes action.
There have been several trade union led protests since the closure with many outraged at the manner in which the news of Clerys’ closure was announced.The former employees of the store are lobbying for a change in law to give employees 30 days’ notice of an intention to make them redundant, in order to give them time to search for new employment opportunities.
