Most of us distinguish between good and evil. We are less clear about defining them, which leads to confusion.LETTER: Once filled with fishing stages, Tizzard's Harbour now has just one part-time fisher left In some religions, we find the expectation that there will be a final battle between good and evil, often expressed in vivid apocalyptic language. Among certain Christians, we find an obsession with eschatology, the millennium, the second coming, the last judgement, the rapture and the end times. There have always been groups and individuals who predict the imminent end of the world.
Reinhold Niebuhr wrote about this in"Moral Man" and"Immoral Society." Hannah Arendt warms us about"the banality of evil." Scott Peck also deals with how we can become agents of evil in his book"People of the Lie." The international companies which control the internet are in the hands of a few and seem accountable to no one. Whether they will use their power to benefit us or harm us is the question. Where is it all going?
