Whenever I read the words “TikTok trend”, my inner Millennial registers that whatever is being discussed probably isn’t meant for me, and my eyes glaze over.
The headline in question read: “How Often Do Men Think About The Roman Empire? A Lot, According To New TikTok Trend”. So, what is this obsession? Well, according to the internet, men claim to think about the Roman Empire daily. Which is a lot, considering Rome famously wasn’t even built in a day. This started a discourse that has expanded as rapidly as the Roman Empire at its peak. On TikTok, the hashtag #romanempire has 1.2 billion views and counting, leading to many videos of men confidently declaring they regularly think about the Roman Empire., which is once a year, every year. In fact, my entire knowledge of Roman history comes courtesy of Ridley Scott, a man also responsible for explaining aliens to me.
