Senator Mike Rounds, a Republican from South Dakota seen here in a March Senate committee meeting, delivered opening remarks to tech and labor leaders during a closed-door AI forum on Sept. 13. The senator compared the discussion around AI to calls that inspired the military to set up the Manhattan Project, the World War II-era endeavor to create an atomic bomb before Nazi Germany did.
"Artificial Intelligence will be one of the main tools of the modern warfighter, and America needs to lead in AI to make sure that our warriors have every advantage," he said.
