SINGAPORE: Primary 1 students will have a new mother tongue curriculum from next year, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing announced on Saturday (Aug 26). The refreshed curriculum, which will be rolled out progressively, will involve the use of more games and technology during lessons.

SINGAPORE: Primary 1 students will have a new mother tongue curriculum from next year, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing announced on Saturday .

More than a third of Singaporeans also identified the most with English, growing at the expense of those who relate to their mother tongue. Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, Second Minister for Education Maliki Osman, Member of Parliament Vikram Nair and Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang pose with teachers and students at the official opening of the 12th Mother Tongue Languages Symposium on Aug 26, 2023.

“Similarly, for Tamil, students will learn about top spinning and how tops feature culturally across India, Malaysia and China. Through these examples, students will better appreciate cross-cultural similarities and better connect with their friends,” said the Education Minister.
