President JoeBiden praised the seven leading artificial intelligence companies who voluntarily agreed to uphold a series of commitments designed to set guardrails for how AI treats users and their data.

Biden announced the voluntary partnership on Friday that the White House had reached with seven leading AI companies: Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection AI, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI. Biden then attended a private meeting with executives from all seven companies. The commitment is the latest effort by the White House to establish guidelines for reining in the rapidly expanding industry of AI and ensuring people are safe while using it.

Biden called the seven companies"critical" to shepherding safety and innovation within the industry of AI.The companies voluntarily committed to include security testing of the AI systems before their release, investing in cybersecurity protections for future AI models, and publicly disclosing the capabilities of their systems. The agreement also includes attaching elements such as watermarks to AI-generated images to ensure they are identifiable as such.

Biden also praised Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's efforts to build a framework for AI laws in the United States, although legislation has stalled in recent weeks.
