The CEOs of US Big Tech companies met with President JoeBiden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss cooperation between the two countries on developing artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.

Biden and Modi were joined by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft's Satya Nadella, and Apple's Tim Cook on Friday to discuss plans to expand their efforts to manufacture more tech in India. Apple recently shifted some of its manufacturing to build more iPhones in India instead of China."Our countries are taking innovation and cooperation to a new level," Biden said."Thanks in large part to the folks around this table.

"We need your help, and I'm talking to CEOs around this table, Indian and American. We need your help to seize the moment, to help manage the risks to our societies, our economies, and to our nation's national security," the president added."Innovation and collaboration are rarely without obstacles, and so you raise our ambitions, and I want you to let us know what stands in the way of our ambitions.

Biden also called on the companies to step up regarding conversations around AI."We need your help to build guardrails around emerging technologies so they're trustworthy, secure, and uphold our shared values and human rights," Biden said. Biden's push for cooperation around AI coincides with efforts organized by Congress to begin understanding and proposing future legislation.Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced a new five-point framework for writing AI-related laws on Wednesday and planned to host forums to ensure the legislative branch properly understands AI. Reps. Ted Lieu and Ken Buck have introduced legislation to form a commission on AI.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology announced it would launch a working group to address the legal and regulatory problems around generative AI, such as ChatGPT.
