Ms Meltzer also used the chatbot when she had writers block, to help clarify her thoughts.
"We don't know how [the algorithms] are privileging the information that they give, what sources they're prioritising over other sources, whether that might be, you know, Eurocentric, or supporting big businesses," Ms Meltzer said. In the interim, students need written permission from teachers if they want to use AI tools in coursework. There are no restrictions on teachers using generative AI in the classroom.
She said both students and teachers had told her they needed proper guidelines and policies to ensure AI is used responsibly. Carol Hu has also used generative AI to draft emails in English, her second language, and explain information.
