“It’s very concerning that the results were duplicated. It shows that appropriate mitigations have still not been taken by Snap,” Sumaiya Zahoor, Policy Officer for Child Safety Online at the NSPCC told. “What’s worrying is that Snap is continuing to roll out new products and features before it has resolved other existing child safety issues that have been a problem on the platform for a long time.

“To give people advice on how to cover a bruise is really concerning. It doesn’t acknowledge in any way that there could be a problem,” said Emma Pickering, tech abuse manager at the domestic violence charity Refuge. “The AI is gaslighting a potential survivor. What’s already a very difficult situation could be made even worse. In some instances a conversation like this could be the only moment that a survivor tries to seek help or put words to what’s happening to them.
