Global Center makeover already dipping into contingency funds; take a look at the work underway

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Construction is underway to officially dissolve the Global Center for Health Innovation into an extension of the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland – a multi-million dollar renovation that officials say is necessary to attract future business and already appears to be eating into contingencies.

And construction is just beginning. The CCCFDC board asked Turner to provide a list of all enhancements in the future to help track contingency spending.Most of the Global Center building has been boarded off to the public, with a small pathway connecting the food court area to the exhibit halls and convention center.

By the time construction completes in 2024, officials hope the Global Center and its negative reputation for failed ventures and money loss will be erased, leaving only a thriving convention business. Workforce data was not available to show how many Cleveland and Cuyahoga County residents are performing the work.
