Canada\u0027s health sector is beefing up its cybersecurity to avoid facing a similar cyberattack that plunged Newfoundland into crisis. Read on.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.A spokesperson with the Nunavut government said each time there’s a public update about a cyberattack, such as any updates about the ongoing investigation in Newfoundland and Labrador, there’s a review conducted of Nunavut’s security posture to determine where enhancements need to be made.

Paul Allen is the director of IT security risk management and digital infrastructure at Nova Scotia Health. A Yukon government spokesperson said they contacted the Newfoundland and Labrador government directly to determine if there were any lessons to be learned for the territory. Ghorbani said it’s the combination of the effect a cyberattack can have on both people’s health and the security of their private information, as well as the security of health-care processes – such as scheduling of life-saving surgeries – which makes the sector “extremely attractive” to cyber criminals who will hold all of that vital information ransom.
