Former Speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop says the tax office refused in 1972 to allow tax deductibility for childcare services which is “vital” for women and families.
“We are in the situation where the tax office refused to say childcare expenses could be a tax deduction in 1972 because it didn’t meet the necessary criterion,” Ms Bishop told Sky News host Amanda Stoker. “You can deduct union fees, you can deduct computers, software, you can deduct seminars – a whole list of things but not childcare which is vital for women.”
Wow, as usual she's up-to-date. Does she still catch government funded helicopters everywhere?
Hmm guess what The Tax Office follows the law put in place by the Parliament and ruled on by the High Court BUT U knew that already didn't you Bronnie
A long time ago Bronwyn.
No the ATO didn't refuse, the politicians at the time did not legislate to allow the ATO to provide tax deductibility for child care. Big difference Bronwyn, try again. Politics_SMHAGE BronwynBishop
Tax office can only administer the enacted law. They’re neither a policy agency nor a legislator.
