The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) underscored the importance of building a “safer space” for women and children in the digital world.

“As we move forward, we will continue to work to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the opportunities that digitalization can offer,” said DICT Head Executive Assistant Patricia Nicole G. Uy during the Interactive Dialogue with Youth Representatives at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

“The Philippines has a young population with an average age of 25 years, and the youth, in particular, are in a unique position to benefit from these advancements, as we possess a natural curiosity and willingness to embrace change and adopt technology,” Uy said. Uy also noted that “those exposed to social media at a young age tend to follow trends blindly, due to ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ which usually leads to personal data being collected without their knowledge.”
