Studying “mini-brains” in a dish play computer games could help us better understand how human memories form and lead to new forms of AI, as Brett Kagan tells Clare Wilson

Brett Kagan is studying mini-brains in a dish as they play simple video games, hoping they will help us understand how human memories form and lead to a new kind of artificial intelligence.

Very exciting. I can't wait to see what they will do.

Is this the 'new science' that the democrats used to push masks and an untested 'vaccine '?

Ah, gamified evil. Lovely.

If they’re being taught anything they’re not liberals.

All I ask is for scientists to not be mad.

Human brain cells = life… ….when in a dish but not when in the body of a fetus. Weird.

Interesting, think it is? Wouldn't this be like you know something it already does? Thanks.✌😷

That sounds unethical. How did you get pieces of brain? Cruel and sadistic.

Something something capitalist er biologist rope.

Wouldn't trying to train them to clear up after themselves be better?

Pretry fucked up.

ok, but again, at what point will the 'organoid' start to ask questions about being trapped in a dish? i swear to all that is holy, cartesian theories will destroy any sense of potentiality of nature and machine goals for the benefit of humanity.

Reminds me of Roald Dahl

The peak of Organoid Intelligence is when we have a panel of experts on a topic and there’s a name card at the table for Petri Dish.

Future is full of 'clumps of human brain cells' personal assistants for scheduling, excel, driving, small talks. Can we plug them to machine so as they can make coffee or floor sweeping ?

Pretty rude to refer to teenagers that way.

What could possibly go wrong?

red_pill_junkie Where I come from we refer to these clumps of cells as ‘teenagers’

Well I can assure you that clump of cells will never amount to anything if all they do is sit around and play video games all day. These scientists are obviously too permissive from a parental point of view.

Why? Because we can, and are acting in an ethical, moral and safety vacuum. Same energy as gain of function. Scientists are increasingly distrusted for lax integrityand sanity these days. Some want to block the sun ffs.

Is this even legal?

What can go wrong?

Human race is doomed. Might be a good thing if violence, hatred, boundary disputes and wars end?

May get added to where there's also a section on ethics & prototypes

Paywalled. But hardly seems to qualify as strictly 'artificial intelligence' & seems to raise a variety of ethical issues both in research & application?

The question that needs to be asked - do these mini brains have sentience and is the study and development of this tech ethical?

nup

I think this dish was behind me at the football yesterday

thomasjfirth bro let this thing try out your games.

Why do scientists think they are as smart as God,and can do a better job?

Sounds like the trailer to a sci-fi horror movie.

Is there mint ❓

can you please do one that does good maths then graft it on to my brain? cheers

Please teach them how to fix themselves after infection? 🦠 🧠

yeah, I can see this ending well 🙄

what is HIS name?

Monstrous. But destroys the “it’s just a clump of cells” argument used to justify murder of an infant in the womb. That “clump of cells” could be playing a video game!

Los video juegos y la Biblia son lo que más me interesa; por sus fantasiosas fantasías sobre la especie humana,

Science has discovered my ex.

Cool…

This doesn’t end well

If my time has a gamer has taught me anything, this blob will be developing cheats and RMTing within the month.

What?

'Artificial' intelligence?
