More than a month before the deadline for SIM registration, the Department of Information and Communications Technology said about 40 million users have registered their SIMs.

The DICT said as of March 5, a total of 40,498,324 subscribers registered in the system, which is 23.97% of the 168,977,773 million SIM users nationwide. The updated figure is consolidated from the data reported by public telecommunications entities Smart Communications Inc. , Globe Telecom Inc. , and DITO Telecommunity Corp. .

DICT Undersecretary and spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo urged subscribers to register their SIMs to avoid user traffic near the April 26 deadline. “We still have 51 days. We are encouraging subscribers and end-users of our local PTEs to register as the deadline is fast approaching. To avoid user traffic and to ensure a hassle-free process, registering as soon as possible is a must,” she said., 2022 as mandated by law. Failure to register on or before April 26 will result in the deactivation of the SIM.
