Conservatives took the most advantage of the benefit, with 27 members billing for home internet, while 16 Liberal MPs claimed the benefit.

MPs from most of the major parties billed taxpayers for the internet at their primary residences, while others also covered the cost of their employees’ internet bills, according to expense reports the National Post reviewed.Sign up to receive the daily top stories from the National Post, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

Among the expense reports, 49 MPs charged the internet bill for their primary residence. An MP’s primary residence is in most cases their home in their constituency, but it can be wherever they spend the majority of the year. All 338 MPs billed for internet service at their constituency offices. The Post contacted many of the MPs and current Conservative Leader Pierre Polievre’s office but received no response before press time.

“I work very extensively virtually because I’m immunocompromised, and my physician does not want me to be in a position where I could catch COVID or the flu,” the 81-year-old Vancouver MP said.Article content

MPPs as well I am sure.

These Jack offs already get paid too much and now they’re billing us for their home internet?

Not surprised in the least. Why do you think it costs so much?

Why do we provide a six figure salary for people when we pay for their expenses anyway?

185k base salary such BS, literally making 10k post tax /month probably.

If they want free internet go to the library or Timmy's. Why should we pay for that?

Good chance it's the ones that worked damn hard to get here are pissed off many got here free and being givin cash by the gov't! good chance no one will look up this ally lol.

Wow. Another big spend under the scrutiny of the Government subsidized press. Get a job

No problem. I’m going to start deducting my expenses from my taxes as well. Food, shelter and utilities.

If it were just liberals you would have a story.

What is the $2,000,000,000 green investment that cafreeland won’t clarify?

This gov at this point is ' ABUSING'' taxpayers money'!

Really CandiceBergenMP you make 200k a year and want me to pay for your home internet? I work from home sometimes as well. Does that mean I can write off that expense? Smarten up CPC_HQ !

The NP must have a lot of time its hands.

I'm going to let this slide. Can we focus on the 2B for the company that doesn't exist?

Despite being overpaid for their qualifications

So that's why my internet is $196 a month instead of $20.

This is the classic nothing burger. It only makes sense in the digital age.

NationalPost did a real good job in reporting, what I can say is a great national paper Canada Toronto Montreal Vancouver keeping them honest.

There is no bigger welfare recipient than a Member of Parliament.

rexglacer You’re surprised politicians leech off our tax dollars?

This seems cheap. There is such bigger scandals to go after.

We should audit their internet usage to make sure it's only for taxpayer work.

Why are we not surprised? Oink, oink.

As someone who does taxes, a portion of internet fees is an allowable expense. So is a portion of other home costs. So if they are only claiming internet, it’s really not that bad

Ok? So while WORKING from home, they got their work expenses paid for? Seems fair. In fact, as a Canadian taxpayer, I’d like to see more of this and less of paying for useless commercial office space.

JustinTrudeau really? I bet they watch regular shows movies etc. I feel that is not essential for their work since they have staff who brief them on issues. They probably charge us their hydro electricity etc Please look into this

Newsflash for the National Post: if you had to work from home for the last two years, you can also claim your internet on your taxes.

That is just not right.

Some MPs actually bill taxpayers for their Google Play and/or Apple Music subscriptions.

The company I work for mandates that I maintain a home office, something that that has been a requirement for 20+ years. Rev Canada does not allow me to claim internet charges so MP's and govt workers should not be charging this back.

How many 'work from home' Bureaucrats have home internet paid for by taxpayers?

Do we not pay them enough? 🙄
