Chatter of a 30% national sales tax being proposed by Republicans has taken over the internet in recent days. Here’s a look at the proposal.

An air traveler uses a credit card to pay for items January 28, 2022 at a retail shop in John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.

On Thursday, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren joined the conversation, blasting the proposal in a tweet: "Hold on: House Republicans want a national 30% sales tax on everything from groceries to gasoline? ... Are they TRYING to show exactly how out of touch they are?"

30% is too much. Federal tax no more than 10%. If the Feds take 30% and States take 20% that’s half of you income. 10% to Feds. 10% to states. 80% for the tax payer. And anyone making under $50,000 zero %

It’s totally amazing how Democrats can lie on a daily basis and no one, including calls them out! 30% is a complete LIE, and worst you publish an article as if there are any facts! If SenWarren speaks, you know it contains LIES!

Democrats pinning this on republicans is to funny

If 30% sounds crazy, just think about how insane the current income tax actually is.

Sales taxes are regressive. Anything but that: income, value added, net worth...

30% what in the hell?

I find it quite hilarious that Democrats are just up in arms about taxes since they love them so much. This would replace federal income tax.... It's not an additional tax. I would go with whichever makes us give less of our money to the federal government.

Tax their checks at 90%

Nope.

30%? I thought it would be 23% (which isn't much better)

A flat high tax on online sales would be a better idea! People dont even own shops. They have online stores and sell out of distributers while not have to front commercial space. So it makes Brick And Mortar store obsolete which in turn loses jobs.

No sales tax on food or rent and allows low income workers to keep A LOT OF THEIR PAYCHECK, seems like this is designed to HELP lower and middle class families not hurt them
