San Jose police arrested a man suspected of pointing a gun at minors after using recently-installed but still-controversial license-plate reading technology.

Police arrested a 20-year old man last week in connection to a September incident in which he brandished a gun at three juveniles in San Jose, authorities revealed Thursday.

The three minors, whose ages range between 11 and 13, were walking alongside McLaughlin Avenue around 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 23 when the suspect approached them in a vehicle. Police said the suspect made verbal comments to the children before pointing a handgun with a high-capacity magazine at them. The suspect quickly drove off after.

Following an investigation, the suspect was arrested Nov. 3 and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a firearm. Upon execution of an arrest warrant, police found the same gun from the September incident along with an illegal high-capacity magazine, authorities say.
