Garmin’s high-end watches like the Epix 2 have OLED displays,and touchscreens with built-in topographical maps that include trail names and even ski slopes.Without a doubt, the Apple Watch Ultra comes up short on a spec comparison with similarly priced devices sold by Garmin, Coros, and others. The battery is the most glaring example: 36, or even 60 hours enabled by a future low-power update, is weak in a category where batteries are measured in weeks.
But Apple has an excellent app ecosystem by comparison to offset some inequalities, and it already makes the best smartwatch for iPhone owners interested in casual fitness and health. Now it brings those same features — plus better mics, louder speaker, and a siren — to serious outdoor athletes, some of whom will undoubtedly be swayed by the Ultra’s appeal as a seemingly good-enough multisport watch that’s also a great smartwatch with a silky-smooth interface.
In the short term, however, the added attention Apple brings to the rugged outdoor smartwatch space could benefit Garmin — its stock was up over three percent yesterday. But if Nokia taught us anything, it’s this: once Apple chooses to enter your house you’d better fight like hell or prepare to move on. It‘s about the UI/UX. For running (showing metrix) Garmin is still better - but this might change - Apple is sill not able to deliver a usable Interface but having a mobile connection integrated in a watch is the way to go!

Garmin's products go so beyond submersible watches though. Apple would have to start making fish finders plus more to truly take over their market. Garmin is an incredibly trusted name in the world of boating, and not just for your wrist.

I want to believe that but ANT+, OLED plus 6 days constant use, aviation DB, integration into Garmin Fly and so much more… I’ll buy it anyway, because I’m in the Apple eco system. but it’s some way off a Garmin killer. Nokia vs Apple is a reactionary comment for the masses

The first AW presented on August 12, 2016, and promising 18h but really..only 12h. We are in 2022 when they sell you a watch for €800 and it must be recharged every 24 hours... it is a Insult to our intelligence, the Aw is by far the worst product has ever sold.

personally it’s simple, I don’t want to log my sport activities/health data using a watch that is exclusive to one eco system. With Garmin I can use any phone and access my data on a browser platform which is far superior to Apple health. All other devices I’m an Apple user.
Do you all forget that this is the first ultra Watch? Honestly if Garmin don’t the “smart” aspects I see Apple winning in the space of 4/5 years - they can improve the battery, make it more robust and the communications with os is unparallel

You’ll need 100% Solar charging (perhaps by using s flexible Solar charging band) to achieve that. No rugged outdoor watch should be dependent on electric charging, not even once!
