: Out of all the mediums humans choose to record memories, why has Remento chosen video as the primary medium versus the written word or the spoken tongue?: For my Mom, recording conversations proved far easier than writing out answers, plus it allowed us to share an entirely new type of experience together that was unexpectedly both joyful and wildly more informative than I ever thought it could be.
That’s why we’re so excited to embrace the same devices that we use hundreds of times a day: our phones. Only now, we’re leveraging this familiar technology actually to do what it promised to do: to create deeper connections. As families reunite in person, many for the first time in years, we are eager to inspire conversations that go beyond standard niceties and small talk.
But importantly, the storytelling captured with Remento is designed to be iterative. These recordings aren’t for the Smithsonian, nor are they intended to be final. Rather, these conversations are a first step towards the creation of an interconnected digital family story that evolves and grows with time.
Looking ahead, we’ll be excited to integrate the digital stories created with Remento into a living, breathing family history. We imagine a private family forum where these stories can be grouped, categorized, and easily explored - by person, theme, community, and more. We’ll be excited to build tools that harness the excitement for further exploration to inspire even more sharing across the family. For some, that may include asking additional questions.
