PlayStation has dropped a new beta system software update introducing new features like Gamelists to the PlayStation 5.

Those who are signed up to the PS5 Beta program can try out the new features from today. They include 1440p HDMI video output support, for monitors and displays that are compatible with that. The game has to support it too, of course, but it should even make 4K games look better on 1440p screens via supersampling.

Another new feature the beta brings is Gamelists. These are custom lists you can make to organise your collection of games however you see fit. Want to put all your racing games together in an easy-to-navigate list rather than searching through ten+ years of PS Plus games? The update’s got you covered. You’ll be able to make up to 15 lists, with 100 games on each – including disc, digital and streamed games. You can also add the same game to multiple lists if you like.

Other useful features in this update include the ability to compare stereo and 3D headphones, easier access to in-progress activities and some new social features. You can now request a friend to share their screen, or join friends in games directly from the notification. If you’re the sort who gets a lot of random friend requests, you can now vet them more easily. That’s thanks to the ability to jump direct to their profiles in Accepted requests.

Gamelists and all these new PlayStation 5 features are available now for those who’ve signed up for testing in the US, UK, Germany and France. If you’ve not signed up, they should arrive for all PlayStation 5 owners later this year.
