Is the Economist being paid by tech lobbyists? This article is stupidly apologetic for tech giants. Just cos they're not the biggest corps ever in history yet is a terrible argument. And them expanding into new industries makes them the pure opposite of 'friends of competition'.
Working in marketing, I was thinking the same-all algorithms are made to target ppl based on their profile, interests-excellent. All these efforts lead to re-targeting and acquisition. it almost eliminates the chances of ppl to find/explore somethg else or even to be approached
Superficial, I think — giant tech firms are the new public-utilities, of the Digital Era, peddling the necessities such as telecomms & access & public-values & politics, just as others did telephony & electricity & water & gas — very much in need now of public sector regulation.
