Stilride’s first product to use the Stilfold technology is the Sport Utility Scooter One — SUS1 for short. Unlike traditional scooters with their tubular frame and plastic body, this one is constructed with folding sheets of stainless steel over curves. The origami method certainly helps form a clean aesthetic, yet Stilride claims it also helps create a more durable body, requires fewer raw materials and reduces labor costs since robots do much of the hard work.
“The Stilfold technology is best described as a dance between robots and steel,” says Nyvang. “We have created a process which builds high-performance, sustainable personal mobility products that are also durable, lightweight and desirable.”The SUS1s are currently being made in a small workshop in Stockholm. The long-term plan though is to scale up production and ship the metal sheets to small workshops around Europe where they can be folded and fitted close to the customer.
The SUS1 is designed to be unisex and uniage. Nyvang expands on the theme: “It’s designed for everyone and we hope it can be an accessible entry point to the world of scooters and motorcycles for those with an eye for style and a love of nature. It meets our commitment to sustainability whilst also having a radical and distinctive design identity.”
