Both levels of government plan to spend $830 million to improve access to high-speed Internet in rural, remote and Indigenous communities across the province, said Gudie Hutchings, federal minister of rural economic development, and Lisa Beare, B.C. minister of citizens’ services during a joint announcement on Tuesday.
The project means more B.C. communities will be able to take advantage of the digital economy, said Beare. The plan is to work with local communities, including Indigenous communities, to reach the national target of connecting 98 per cent of Canadians by 2026 and all of the country by 2030 with Internet speeds of at least 50 megabits per second for downloads and 10 Mbps for uploads.
This is a great initiative. It will do a lot for the Canadian economy generally and may actually help with housing affordability in key cities as entrepreneurs are able to move to or remain in smaller communities. Good work cafreeland KahlonRav
