If we want to end waste, we will have to completely reimagine the way we live our lives. This is what that means for material use in buildings, clothes, electronics and plastic.

The average human uses a vast amount of materials. Well over 10 tonnes of new stuff is created for each person on the planet each year in the form of buildings, consumer items and fuel and food. In our current linear “extract-use-dispose” economy, under 10 per cent of that total is currently recycled. Doing more with less stuff, and making the linear economy more circular by recycling and reusing stuff, is crucial to living more sustainably . Here’s how we do it in four key sectors.

The most effective way to reduce construction’s impact is to avoid building afresh wherever possible by retrofitting old buildings. This is the aim of initiatives such as the Re:fit scheme, originally developed by the Greater London Authority in 2009 and. In London, its aim is to introduce energy-efficiency retrofits in 40 per cent of the city’s publicly owned buildings by 2025.

Material waste is such an out of sight out of mind reality. If people were to visit their local landfills (both public and private) it would be an eye opening experience. We create an insane amount of waste from commercial to residential alike.

Lol... We... Why not make shit that last. Away with planned obsolescence and hello cradle to cradle production chains. But we, the people have to buy what's out there or make it ourselves... We...

YES!!!!!!!!!

Woman ' framed ' again

By “we” I assume you mean corporate giants, the oil industry and factory farms. And not the average soccer mom struggling to get through the day without going insane. Correct? You ARE putting the onus on the culprits. Correct

And recycle; again and again.

Because we all know now that recycling was just a political sham.

Woman ' framed ' again

What are we reimagining? The answer is absurdly simple but hard in practice... move to a barter based economy keeping materials in the repurposed lane longer and out of landfills--less waste and less needless consumerism. 'Bonus' it lowers carbon emissions

You mean more poor ppl will have to die before those who really caused the problem finally admit it was them whose strategy caused the mess in the first place but, who despise levellers so much they would rather kill them 1st

A truth!

Only the de-evolution of man or re-imaging of $$ will allow that to happen. $$ is the biggest contributing factor to most waste and pollution.

There is one plant on this planet that literally can be used for everything you need.....the cannabis plant.....it can be processed into everything from a multitude of drugs to building materials even batteries and powerful cleaning products. It could literally replace big pharma

Politiikan tekiät pyrkivät aineelisuuden avulla hallitsemaan ihmiskuntaa saatakseen aineelisen voiton vallalleen,ei salaisuus.

I wont 'reimagine' my way of living before we exhaust all other options. Starting with big money making factories owned by corporates posting about reimagining the way of living. You go eat with a spoon made of diapers.

Not wishing to be controversial but what happens to female sanitary ware. I believe it ends up in landfill, surely this could be made of recycling products etc.

Bucky had thots on this..

It demands an epiphany.
