The Lypertek PurePlay Z5 are the brand's first pair of true wireless earbuds featuring Hybrid Active Noise-Cancelling technology along with a completely new PureControl ANC app.

As with most earbuds, the PurePlay Z5 can be controlled using touch control pads on each earbud. The earbuds also have built-in triple array microphones for making phone calls and using a voice assistant. The chipset at the heart of these earbuds comes from Qualcomm which means there’s also support for cVc 8.0 noise-canceling microphones, so phone calls have less background noise and clearer speech.

The Lypertek PurePlay Z5 earbuds support Qualcomm’s excellent aptX Adaptive Bluetooth audio codec along with a low-latency mode for watching videos and gaming. There’s also support for the AAC codec used by Apple in its iOS devices. Qualcomm chipsets cost more to buy but the company has raised the Bluetooth audio standard to a whole new level. If your choice of true wireless earbuds doesn’t use a Qualcomm chipset, then you’re probably not going to get the very best sound possible.

These new earbuds are the first pair that Lypertek has produced to use Hybrid Adaptive Noise-Canceling technology. Noise cancelation technology has come a long way in the past couple of years and the quality of the ANC used on the PurePlay Z5 is exemplary.

The Lypertek app also has some other handy features such as customizable EQ controls and the LDX Audio Mode. This is a special tone control that’s been specifically designed to bring out the best sound from the PurePlay Z5. LDX Mode takes an already great sound to a new level, with added impact, increased energy and a wider soundstage. It’s a bit like a Loudness button on steroids.... [+]Next, we come to the all-important sound quality.

A full charge of the PurePlay Z5 provides up to seven hours of playing time before the earbuds need to be popped back in the charging case for a top-up. With the ANC turned on, that figure drops to four hours; not quite long enough to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The case can hold a total of 28 hours of playing time with the earbud charge included, but that drops to around 16 hours when listening with ANC always on.
