And when the Type 003 starts steaming around the Indo-Pacific, US allies may well draw further comparisons between the once-familiar sight of U.S. flattops to the increasingly visible silhouette of Chinese flagships today.
Among them is justified anxiety that Asia’s fleet of lilliputian carriers will not be enough, and that larger-sized alternatives are simply too difficult for the region to produce. Regional demand for carriers capable of fielding a modern air wing is growing, and the U.S. needs a plan to seize on the momentum already underway, strengthening distributed deterrence among its friends and partners. Tech-sharing should top the list. class flat-decks are being updated to handle F-35Bs.

Would think with latest long range missiles in service today that aircraft carriers aren't all that useful anymore in a limited or total war. Unless, of course, carriers have unlimited capability to stop missile strikes. Wonder how many missiles a carrier can defend against.
