KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has set up a Climate Change Action Council to drive green economic growth as well as be a catalyst to green technology and low carbon growth, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He also said the council was part of the state's policy on the environment as well as the national aspiration, especially in climate mitigation and adaptation processes.

"As part of our commitment to reduce the impact of climate change, the state has targeted to plant about 36 million trees as part of the nationwide Greening Malaysia Programme themed"Greening Malaysia: Our Trees, Our Life," he said at the opening of the Sabah Climate Change International Conference 2021 here on Tuesday .

The two-day hybrid conference is jointly organised by the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, Sabah Environmental Protection Department, Southeast Asia Rainforest Research Partnership together with Petronas as the main sponsor.
