“So people would report content if they found violating or problematic, and these were in cue chronologically so that our content reviewers would review them and if they were violated, they were taken down,” she said.
But as Facebook started to invest in AI, taking down harmful content has taken to a pro-active approach. “We were trying to be more pro-active in our approach and find content to remove it without relying on someone or report it to us,” Barnes said of the use of AI. “And as the AI got better, we rely on automation more and more in this pro-active approach. So technology would help us to identify these problems and help make a decision and no which violate or doesn’t violate,” she added.
And thanks to AI, it also ensures that their team won’t have to spend too much time reviewing multiple things on Facebook over and over, Barnes said.
