With poor internet connection, online learning is not easy for this Russian student

The 21-year-old, a popular blogger and a student at the Omsk Institute of Water Transport, located 2,225 kilometres east of Moscow, has got the authorities’ attention by pleading for better internet coverage from the top of a snow-covered birch tree.

“I need to go into the forest 300 metres from the village and climb a birch tree that is eight-metres high... and I get on Zoom to speak to professors and prove that I am not skipping class for no reason,” he said. The Omsk region’s education ministry told RBC business daily it was preparing an individualised study plan for Dudoladov so he could study in Stankevichi, a village 170 kilometres northwest of the regional capital.

“I was put on an individual study plan, but do they not care about other students from other universities,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Monday.

I'd probably break my neck climbing that tree and I can't remember ever having a bad WiFi connection

that is a dedicated student!

2020

I am about to upgrade to 5G, and I get mad when 4G plays up, cannot even imagine only having access to 2G. I can't even remember what it was like without internet, I've had a desktop/laptop in my room since I was at least 5 (im 25)

If ever there were a more deserving use case for SpaceXStarlink this would be it :-)

Summer years ago in a remote island cottage in Thai, I found I can get a phone reception by squatting down by the toilet bawl. I found it by mistake. But how did he find that he can get the internet access on top of the tree....,?

Sad, but also kinda badass right ?

meanwhile in Russia

Ok, that socks, but I live in upstate NY and I only get 2G and it's spotty and slooow.

Worst in Africa.

The Russian state should be doing more to assist.

C'mon folks there are indeed internet problems in remote places, but didn't that guy think about getting an LTE stick with an external antenna? Not too expensive and quite common here in Russia
