The Three Percenters militia had applied last month to hold a more than 2,000-strong rally “to defend and protect our history and second Amendment rights” on Aug. 15 at the park northeast of Atlanta. The application was denied by state officials, who cited violence at a similar event in 2016.
Park officials were not immediately available for comment late on Friday, but said in a short statement that the park will be closed on Saturday, due to security concerns. Stone Mountain Park, which draws more than 4 million visitors a year to its sprawling 3,200 acres of woods and trails and amusements, is home to the largest monument to America’s Civil War Confederacy.

I grew up hanging out in the park and my bro in law is a historian of the park and carving. The park is a Confederate Museum. The area is nice. Without constant maintenance, the carving will fall off the mountain by itself.

Oh man. I went there as a kid and watched the light show on the side of that mountain. It was beautiful but the story they told was not. I was not from the south and their take on history left me a bit disgusted and confused.

Went there for first time last summer. Could not believe a Confederate flag was flying at the trail entrance. Nearly all people on trail were Black. It's a public park.
