A dream holiday has turned into a nightmare for a Meath man who is stranded in Covid-19 lockdown in Peru and can’t get home.
The Navan resident, who works in Dublin Airport, has tried to contact Air Canada to see if his flight has been cancelled but hasn’t managed to get any reply to his emails. “We were three days on the trail with no internet coverage and when we finally came back down and got some connectivity, we found out about the lockdown and only had 12 hours to get out of the country.
“We are allowed to go to a shop but you have to have a face mask to get out - and we need to get to the shops to buy one. There is also a military curfew from 8pm to 5am and anyone out on the streets is arrested. "Andrew is staying with eleven others - from Germany, Holland, Canada and English at the Air B&B for now.
“Peru is not like Spain and there are much fewer people there to be rescued. Unlike Spain, we don’t have any Irish carrier flying regular flights to the country.
