The coronavirus outbreak is starting to make normally unremarkable, everyday retail purchases more difficult, as factories remain shut in China. From guitars to bikes to hardware, retailers are feeling the pinchParts are being delayed or are simply not available for products and repairs that are usually taken for granted.
And retailers are also concerned that stocks built up before the Chinese New Year will dwindle in coming weeks, and may even not be replaced. For Graham Hoskins, the owner of Concept Music in Perth, the cracks in the supply chain are already showing.
Good, perhaps people can stop buying crap they don’t need.
Perhaps there is a chance we could manufacture something ourselves and fill the void... permanently
Just wait until there are no more food imports from China. The writing is on the wall!
Cracks have always been there bc australian retailers refuse to stock more than a weeks inventory at any time. This is why online giants have decimated retail and will now put a large nail in the coffin.
Then they’d better start quickly diversifying their suppliers. China isn’t the only place guitars, bikes and tools are made. Eggs in the wrong basket there.
So banking one one country, however big, to supply most of our material wants was a stupid idea. Who knew.
