Phone number to report Iowa caucus results was posted on fringe internet message board Monday, along with encouragement to “clog the lines,” an indication jammed lines that left some caucus managers on hold for hours may have in part been due to pranks.

“If I picked up the phone and it was clear after the first handful of words that someone was not calling to report the results, I just hung up,” Sand said.

The telephone reporting problems added to other issues, notably a smartphone app that did not work for some people and that also had a coding problem that prevented results from being reported properly, pushing more caucus volunteers to the phone lines. It’s unclear how many prank calls the party received or how much they contributed to wait times. Some calls came from Iowans looking to confirm details of their evening’s caucus, party officials said.

Several officials at caucuses attended by NBC News reporters struggled with lengthy hold times that made it impossible for them to report results.

This was not 'pranks,' but an organized 'denial of service' attack, a hack. And someone inside the party was involved. Otherwise, how did private number get onto 'fringe' site? Because someone from fringe infiltrated Iowa party, which makes caucus results suspect.

Good thing Iowa Democrats used hand marked and signed preference cards. These were collected to serve as a integrity check and can recreate any precinct results. All elections in every state need a paper trail.

Whole thing is suspicious.

Pranks?

Russians are at it again.

“Prank” is the wrong word. Get serious for these serious times!

Thats election interference

Right! Anyone believe that?

'Pranks'?

It was no prank it was a Concerted effort by the Trumpster cult to wreak havoc. Expect more of the same.

Trump called in favors!

What a b.s. excuse. DirtyDNC ResignTomPerez CheatersNeverWin

Likely story 😂😂😂

Pranks, I call that sabotage!

Iffy legal territory, but if it affected the results of an election... someone help a sister out & let us know if anyone's going to jail. PaperBallotsNow

HAND 👏 COUNTED 👏 PAPER 👏 BALLOTS 👏

Trumpbots already interfering with an election. Imagine that.

Handmarked paper ballots - verified and reported by humans. Problem solved.

And by 'fringe internet board' they mean right wing 4chan Trump supporting board.

'Pranks.'

What is the matter with you? This isn’t some prank! This is deliberate tampering. trumpsheviks RussianElectionInvasion

Ha, ha, ha! Blaming others for their own failures!

Lol!!

How much is this costing the taxpayers?

This would be why you just vote the good old-fashioned way. Paper and pen or punch machines. Using anything electronic sets you up for these issues.

SHADOW INC. DNC IS CORRUPT. NBC TRYING TO BLAME 4CHAN FOR POLITICAL CORRUPTION. FBI needs to investigate oneunderscore__

And how were the identities of site captains verified? Couldn’t a “prankster” just call in and make up numbers?

4chan is going 4chan. DNC should have been prepared.

Pranks? Call it what it was. Election Interference!

Wait until you see the crap the Trump-Putin-GOP have in store for the country in November.

Tom Perez needs to resign.

It’s like the USA 🇺🇸 is new to elections 🤦‍♀️

This breaks the law and every person who phoned in should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for election fraud and the site (which I won't mention) shut down.

“Pranks?

Trump's people. Russians. Traitors. Same difference.

Trace every call and arrest every person.

The headline vs the content of your article is schizophrenic.

They told us it was a coding error. This is getting more sketchy by the hour. Breaking

BooHoo. Sounds like an ObamaCare opening day excuse.

those are not pranks, those are DIRECT ATTACKS on voting process and American democracy orchestrated or influenced by Trump and his foreign agents!

More Republican corruption.

Any network that is showing this Trump press conference is showing propaganda and is pushing fake news.

Figures they will blame it on someone else.....the new complain and blame party? I think it was the Russians😎

They have attempted a dry run once already and tested the fence against presidential security. Now this “prank”, this does not seem like some innocent prank it looks like probing for areas of weakness and opportunity. It looks like a chessboard a key piece on our board somewhere

As others have said, that was not a prank. It was election interference. Trump and his supporters have no respect for democracy

Did 4chan foil another one of the deep state's plan?

Russia.

Pranks? Wouldn’t interfering with an election be a crime?

LMFAO, another Hillary obama failure 🤣🤣🤣

Not pranks, it was election interference by republicans

That's not a prank, that's messing with the election and should be punished

This is not a prank, this is election interference. Get it right
