New Giants captain Jo Harten says the game needs 'continual' innovation to survive, and that a men's competition in Australia could be the next step | sarah_keoghan

New Giants captain Jo Harten has encouraged Netball Australia to closely consider a men's competition in an effort to continue to grow the game as the sport prepares to negotiate a crucial new television broadcast deal.

"I know a lot of male netball players across the world, New Zealand, Australia and in England as well," Harten said. "I think there is room to grow in that area, it just needs to have a bit of a broader eye."In June, the Silver Ferns played against the New Zealand men's team in what is believed to be a world first.

Harten will be publicly announced as the new captain of the Giants on Friday, replacing Kim Green, who retired at the end of last season. Also to be announced on Friday is the introduction of rolling substitutions and extra time this season after Super Netball fans voted in support of the new rules.“The continued evolution of Suncorp Super Netball is a result of listening to our fans and partners to ensure we are bringing our audiences the best possible product each week,” he said.
