US Navy bans staff from using kids' app TikTok over 'cybersecurity threat'.

US NAVY staff have been banned from using an app popular with kids and teens over cybersecurity concerns.

The bulletin said users of government issued mobile devices who had TikTok and did not remove the app would be blocked from the Navy Marine Corps Intranet.One Navy spokesman said the ban was part of Navy efforts to 'address existing and emerging threats'However, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Uriah Orland said in a statement the order was part of an effort to “address existing and emerging threats”.

A Navy spokesman said Naval and Marine personnel who use government issued smart devices are generally allowed to use popular commercial apps, including common social media apps, but from time to time specific programs that present security threats are banned.Here's the official description from the NSPCC's Net Aware...

Like Snapchat, TikTok has filters where users can record their videos. It also includes other additional video editing features such as slow motion or speeding up videos. What makes this app popular with young people is the collaborative element where TikTok users can reply to one another and do joint videos on a split screen or participate in user created challenges.
